AI Optical Sorting for Gummies & Jellies — Color, Shape, Foreign Bodies, Contamination

What if every gummy and jelly piece could be verified individually before it reaches the packaging line?

After demoulding, product variability increases — pieces deform, stick, carry starch residue, or deviate in color and shape.

The Sortecno Sorvex Varvix, powered by HypériOne, performs high-speed optical sorting between demoulding and packaging — combining color imaging, AI-driven geometry analysis, and precision ejection to remove non-conforming product in real time.

STEP BY STEP

How It Works.

The Sortecno Sorvex Varvix sorts every demoulded gummy and jelly piece individually — combining electromagnetic vibration distribution, True-Color high-resolution imaging, and HypériOne AI classification across seven defect categories simultaneously. Non-conforming pieces are removed by Targeted Ejection Logic before the packaging line. The line never stops.

How It Works — Sortecno Sorvex Varvix
01
INFEED

Modular Laning & Vibration Distribution

Pieces exit the demoulding station and are distributed across the inspection lanes by an integrated electromagnetic vibration system — gently separating product from the belt and ensuring single-piece presentation at full throughput.

Modular laning feeders adapt to different product geometries — gummy bears, worms, spheres, slabs — without mechanical adjustment between formats.
02
ACQUISITION

High-Resolution True-Color Imaging

High-resolution cameras capture every piece in a single pass — recording color, shape, surface condition, and geometric profile. True-Color image processing preserves color accuracy independent of ambient lighting variations.

Optional 3D laser, NIR, and SWIR camera technologies available for applications requiring sub-surface inspection or extended spectral analysis.
03
AI ANALYSIS

HypériOne & True-Shape Technology

HypériOne classifies every piece simultaneously across all seven defect categories. True-Shape Technology applies AI-powered geometry analysis to identify malformed and conjoined units that fall outside the expected outline.

Self-optimising deep learning models continuously refine classification performance — no manual recalibration required across recipe changes or production condition variations.
04
EJECTION

Targeted Ejection Logic (TEL)

Non-conforming pieces are removed individually by precision air valves — each firing with millisecond accuracy on the specific piece classified as defective. Conforming product flows uninterrupted to the packaging line.

TEL minimises product loss and false rejections — only the defective piece is ejected, not adjacent good product. Every ejection is logged with defect classification, image, and timestamp.

WHAT THE SYSTEM DETECTS

What Gets Blocked.

Engineered for precision at scale: the Sorvex Varvix inspects every gummy and jelly piece in real time — detecting color deviation, shape defects, foreign bodies and conjoined products before they leave the line.

SORVEX ECOSYSTEM

Together with Sorvex Mogul.

The Sortecno Sorvex Varvix is the second inspection point on the gummy and jelly production line. Upstream, the Sortecno Sorvex Mogul prevents defective deposits at the starch tray stage. The Varvix then takes over after demoulding — sorting every piece by color, shape, size, foreign bodies, and contamination before packaging. Two systems. One HypériOne AI platform.
